Information for International Students

The admissions and financial aid process is more complex for students from foreign countries. For information on higher education in the United States, and particularly on choosing and paying for a U.S. college or university, College Is Possible recommends the following web sites and publications:

  • For information on the organization and structure of the United States system of higher education, visit the U.S. Network for Education Information.

  • The College Board website features information on admissions to U.S. institutions. It also includes a search program to locate the United States Information Service office nearest you. These offices are usually located adjacent to the U.S. embassy or consulate and; they specialize in assisting foreign students who wish to study in the United States.

At this site you can also purchase the College Board's International Student Handbook of U.S. Colleges 1999, a comprehensive guide to U.S. higher education for undergraduate and graduate students. This book, which costs $21.95 USD, is also available by calling 1-800-323-7155, Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 11:00 pm ET.

  • For information on financial assistance for studying in the U.S., visit the website of the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors. It includes a comprehensive discussion of financial aid for international students, as well as links to other useful sites.
